Cyril Hempstead was born in Cambridge on 2nd December 1912(Cambridge Q1-1913 3B:769) son of Samuel George and Mary Selina HEMPSTEAD (née LANDER)

In Cambridge in Q4-1937 he married Lille O. PATTLE. In 1939 they were at 1 Smiths Path, Chesterton. Cyril's date of birth is given as 2nd December 1912 (general labourer) and Lille O born 28 February 1916.


He died in Uckfield, Sussex (Uckfield Q1-1943 2b:248)
According to www.roll-of-honour.com he was accidentally killed in a tank accident on March 1 1943 Husband of Mrs Lille Hempstead and son of Samuel George and Mary Selina Hempstead of Cambridge. Before joining the services he was living in Smith's Path, Cottenham and worked on the Oakington aerodrome. CWGC has his wife's as from Freckenham.
